A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A SPECIAL
ELECTION TO FILL THE DISTRICT
FIVE COMMISSION SEAT VACANCY
WHEREAS,the Commission seat for District Five became vacant as a result of the untimely death of
the Honorable Commissioner Andrew Jefferson on November 4, 2018; and
WHEREAS,the unexpired term for the District Five vacancy runs through December 31, 2020; and
WHEREAS, in 1999 the Georgia Legislature amended the Consolidation Act (via Ga. L. 1999, p.
4143) to require that a Special Election shall be held in the commission district in which the
vacancy occurred to elect a successor for the unexpired term when the unexpired terms exceeds
twelve months.
NOW THEREFORE,The Augusta,Georgia Commission requests that the Richmond County Board of
Elections schedule and call a Special Election for the District Five Commission Seat on March 19,
2019.
