SUBJECT: Revised Permit for Stop and Go Traffic Signal
Attached for further handling is a revised permit for a stop and go
traffic signal located at the intersection of State Route 383/Jimmie
Dyess Parkway at Belair Road in Augusta, Richmond County. The most
recent permit was approved on May 16, 1997 .
A Richmond County project will widen Belair Road to include
additional eastbound and westbound left turn lanes.
This revision will remove the existing 5-section signal heads for
the northbound and southbound protected/permissive left turn
approaches (phases 1/6 & 2/5) and replace them with 4-section
flashing yellow arrow signal heads (phases 1 & 5) , add 3-seciton
signal heads for the northbound and southbound through movements
(phases 2 & 6) .
This revision will also remove the striped islands on all corners;
install pedestrian accommodations with countdown timers along with
D-spec signs at this intersection.
Please keep a copy of this revised permit for your files and send a
copy to the City of Augusta. If you should have any questions
concerning this matter, please feel free to contact this office.

Special Requirements:
Stop and Go signals shall flash during all times when not in Stop and Go operation and during
emergency repairs. Signal heads, except for School Beacons, are to be hooded or taken down
when for any reason the signal is not operating as a Stop and Go Signal or Flasher during a
period of more than six consecutive days or when requested by the District Traffic Engineer.
The traffic control signal equipment, its installation and operation covered by this
authorization shall not be materially altered without the written approval of the Georgia
Department of Transportation.
