HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 7631 AMEND THE COMPREHENSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE FOR AUGUSTA, GEORGIA BY AMENDING SECTION 28-B -SIGNS_ ZA-R-254 ZA-R-254 ORDINANCE 1 U31 An Ordinance to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance adopted by the Augusta, Georgia Commission effective September 16, 1997 by amending the following: Amend the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance for Augusta Georgia by amending Section 28-B - Signs THE AUGUSTA COMMISSION HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION I. That the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance amend the following language in Section 28-B-2 Signs by adding the following: Sign, Addressing—A fixed freestanding or wall mounted sign that purposely seeks to identify the unique combination of numbers or letters given to a primary structure or unit on a parcel. SECTION II. That the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance amend by deleting the following language in Section 28-B-4 (Exemptions): D. Signs or plates on residential structures or premises bearing the name and/or address of the occupant;mailboxes,paper boxes, and similar uses customarily associated with residential structures. M. Address numbers less than six inches in height. SECTION II. That the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance is now amended by adding the following language in Section 28-B-4 (Exemptions): D. Signs or plates on residential structures bearing the name and address of the occupant; mailboxes,paperboxes, and similar uses customarily associated with residential structures. M. Addressing signs—where the property is situated in an A, R-1, or R-2 zone or contains a single-family residence are subject to the following conditions: (a) Name, address numbers and letters affixed to a structure which are less than four(4) inches in height and which otherwise conform to the Augusta Roads &Addressing Ordinance. (b) Overall size of the sign may not exceed 18" in height and 24" in width and may be no higher than three(3)feet high, as measured from the ground under the sign to the top of the sign. (c) Signs utilizing brick, stucco or metal for decorative structural support may be 6 inches higher and 6 inches wider on all sides surrounding the 18"x 24"sign, but in no case shall the sign be higher than three (3) feet high, as measured from the ground under the sign to the top of the sign. (d) No addressing signs may be internally illuminated in residential areas. ZA-R-254 (e) In no case shall addressing signs be placed in the public right-of-way or be placed in the clear-view easement of corner lots. SECTION III. That the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance is now amended by adding the following language in Section 28-B-7 (Signs in Agricultural, Single-Family Residential, Two- Family Residential, and Multiple-Family Residential zones (A, R-1, R-2. And R-3): E. Addressing signs—subject to the conditions outlined in Section 28-B-4. SECTION IV. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
