CITY OF AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
A PURPLE HEART CITY
Whereas, the City of Augusta in the state of Georgia has always supported its
military veteran population; and
Whereas, veterans have paid the high price of freedom by leaving their families and
communities and placing themselves in harm's way for the good of all; and
Whereas, many citizens of our community have earned the Purple Heart medal as a
result of being wounded while engaged in combat with an enemy force, constructed
as a singularly meritorious act of essential service; and
Whereas, the mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an
environment of goodwill among the combat-wounded veteran members and their
families, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives, and most importantly-
make sure we never forget; and
Whereas, the City of Augusta has a large, highly decorated veteran population
including many Purple Heart recipients; and
Whereas, the City of Augusta appreciates the sacrifices our Purple Heart recipients
made in defending our freedoms and believe it is important that we acknowledge
them for their courage and show them the honor and support they have earned.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that- the City of Augusta, Georgia is hereby
declared a Purple Heart City and encourage the citizens of the City of Augusta to
show their appreciation for the sacrifices of the Purple Heart recipients have made
in defending our freedoms, to acknowledge their courage, and to show them the honor
and support they have earned.
