HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION DESIGNATING SMALL BUSINESS WEEK IN AUGUSTA_ APRIL 30-MAY 6 (‘-‘)�, u 1:04,4 p.UGUS7A '•n 17]6••- Resolution WHEREAS, April 30 — May 6, 2017 has been designated as National Small Business Week by the President of the United States of America; and WHEREAS, more than 21,000 small businesses in the Augusta Metropolitan Area drive the local economy, stimulating growth and fostering economic development; and WHEREAS, there are more than 180,000 people employed by small businesses in the Augusta Metro Area,which comprises approximately 18%of employment and payroll of Richmond County proper; and WHEREAS, the annual payroll of the small businesses in the Augusta Metropolitan Area tops $6 billion; and WHEREAS, In 2016, Georgia was named the top state in the nation in which to conduct business for the fourth year in a row. Additionally, Georgia was ranked number two in the country for fastest growth of women-owned businesses, top five for black-owned businesses, and scored an "A" for Small Business Friendliness. These accolades are evidence of the achievements of small businesses throughout our community and state; and WHEREAS, the City of Augusta is proud to be a city where entrepreneurs and small business owners can thrive and prosper; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Augusta, Georgia has proclaimed April 30 — May 6, 2017 as SMALL BUSINESS WEEK in the City of Augusta, and encourage all citizens of Augusta to join me in patronizing the small businesses throughout our city.
