PURSUANT TO 36 CFR PART 800.6
CHERRY TREE CROSSING PROJECT, AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
WHEREAS, Augusta, Georgia has determined that the demolition of Cherry Tree Crossing in
Augusta, Georgia will affect this property which has been determined eligible for listing in the
National Register of Historic Places and has consulted with the Georgia State Historic
Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106
of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. Part 470F); and,
WHEREAS, the Augusta Housing Authority (AHA), as administrator of the federal funds
allocated for this project has participated in the consultation and has been invited to concur in
this Memorandum of Agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, Augusta, Georgia and the Georgia SHPO agree that the undertaking
shall be implemented in accordance with the following stipulations in order to take into account
the effect of the undertaking upon historic properties.
STIPULATIONS:
Augusta, Georgia, through the Augusta Housing Authority, will ensure that the following
measures are carried out:
1. Prior to demolition, representative buildings within the Cherry Tree Crossing complex will be
photographically recorded to archival -quality standards. The photographs will include views of the
interior and exterior of the buildings and will be keyed to floor plans or a site map. Exterior
photographs will also be taken of the complex and its setting.
• All submitted information shall adhere to the Georgia SHPO "Guidelines for Establishing a
Permanent Archival Record. " (copy attached)
• Each photographic image shall be submitted in raw format, as well as .tif and .jpeg formats.
Images will be saved to a media that is designed for long -term (over 100 years) storage of
sensitive date, video or music files. The media will be archivally labeled (using felt type and
solvent free pen and no adhesive details). A proof sheet containing 6 images per page, that
includes the name of the property and view, will be submitted on archivally stable paper

along with the media.
• A draft copy of the photographic documentation will be submitted to the Georgia SHPO for
review and approval. Upon approval, two (2) copies of the final documentation will be
prepared. One (1) copy shall be submitted to the Georgia SHPO. One (1) copy shall be
made available to the public by forwarding to a local repository such as a regional library or
historical society.
• The following content will be submitted to the Georgia SHPO on archivally stable paper:
> Introductory page providing project number, Historic Preservation (HP) project
number and a brief description of the resource and why it is significant
> Information on the geographic location of the resource
> Map documenting the resource location
> Sketch map /site plan illustrating the resource and immediate surroundings
> Photo log including name of photographer and date photographs taken
2. The Augusta Housing Authority (AHA) will donate any original plans for Cherry Tree Crossing
(originally known as Sunset Homes), and any other related historic materials they possess, to a local
repository selected by the Georgia SHPO, in order to preserve the information for persons wishing to
do research in the design of early public housing.
3. Exterior elevation drawings of the replacement dwelling units will be submitted to the SHPO for
review prior to new construction. Design review will be based on compatibility with any historic
resources within the viewshed of the project.
This Agreement shall remain in effect from the date of execution until the Georgia SHPO, in
consultation with all other signatories, determines that the terms of this Agreement have been
satisfactorily fulfilled.
If any signatory to the Agreement determines that the Agreement cannot be fulfilled, the
signatories will consult to seek amendment of the Agreement. Any amendment will be specific
to the applicable undertaking unless otherwise agreed to by the signatories.
The GA SHPO or Augusta, Georgia may terminate this Agreement by providing 30 days written
notice to the other party, provided that the parties will consult during this period to seek

amendments or other actions that would prevent termination. Termination of this Agreement will
require compliance with 36 CFR Part 800.
This Agreement will become effective on the date of the last signature. Augusta, Georgia will
ensure that each party is provided with a complete copy.
Execution of this Memorandum of Agreement by Augusta, Georgia and the Georgia SHPO, and
implementation of its terms by the Augusta Housing Authority, show that Augusta, Georgia has taken
into account the effects of the undertaking on historic properties.
