RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE
RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLA TIYE
DELEGATION TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION
TO AMENDING THE PROCESS FOR THE
SELECTION OF THE AUDITOR
WHEREAS, pursuant to 1974 Ga. Laws, p. 3034, and 1980 Ga. Laws, p. 4590,
the process for the selection of an auditing firm for the County is as follows:
The Grand Jury of the January Term of the Superior Court of
Richmond County shall each year submit to the governing
authority of Richmond County a list of three certified public
accounting firms. The goyerning authority of Richmond County
shall select from arnong those firms submitted to them an
accounting firm which shall perform an audit of all County offices
handling public funds of Richmond County. Said audit shall cover
the current fiscal year. No such firm shall be selected for said
audit which has performed such services for three consecutive
years.
WHEREAS, the Grand Jury for Richmond County has recommended that the
process be amended such that the County will be _allowed to solicit bids for such auditing
services; and

WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission has determined that it
is not in the best interest of the taxpayers of Richmond County to continue to follow the process
established;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE AUGUSTA-
RICHMOND COMMISSION that the Legislative Delegation is requested to repeal 1974 Ga.
Laws, p. 3034, as amended by 1980 Ga. Laws, p. 4590, and to provide in lieu thereof the
following:
The governing authority of Richmond County shall select from
qualified firms an accounting firm which shall perform an audit of
all County offices handling public funds of Richmond County.
Said audit shall cover the current fiscal year. No firm shall be
selected by the governing authority for said audit which has
performed such seryices for three consecutive years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
the Richmond County Legislative Delegation.
Duly adopted by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission by a vote of JL
for and ~ against this /ffljvday of January, 2000.
