RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING
RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION TO SEEK FUNDING
FOR RENOV A TION OF MAIN
BRANCH OF THE AUGUSTA PUBLIC
LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Richmond County, prior to
consolidation, included in the capital improvement program for Phase III of the Special
Purpose Local Option Sales Tax the sum of$l,700,000.00 for the repairs and renovation
of Augusta's Public Libraries, including the Main Branch, the Maxwell Branch, the
Wallace Branch, the Friedman Branch, and the Appleby Branch, as well as the sum of
Seven Hundred Thousand and no/l 00 ($700,000.00) Dollars for the construction of a new
library in South Richmond County; and

WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission contracted with
TSDG Architects, to do the architectural design and planning for the renovations; and
WHEREAS, the plans and specifications prepared by TSDG Architects
were submitted for bid, and the bids for the repairs and renovations to the libraries
exceeded the funds set aside in the Phase III Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax; and
WHEREAS, an additional $700,000.00 is needed in order to make the
necessary repairs and renovations to the Main Branch; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission has approved a
contract for the repair and renovation to the branch libraries, omitting the Main Library,
because of insufficient funding;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond
County Commission that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation is requested to
seek a State grant or other funding from the 2000 General Assembly to complete the
needed repairs and renovations to the Main Branch of the Augusta Public Libraries.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be
delivered to each member of the Legislative Delegation.
