RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE AUGUST A-RICHMOND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION
TO SPONSOR REDEVELOPMENT POWERS LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission desires to promote economic
redevelopment within Richmond County; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission is seeking new economIc
development incentives that may be used to stimulate redevelopment of distressed and
underdeveloped areas of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission has investigated the option of
utilizing the Redevelopment Powers Law to provide redevelopment incentives and assistance;
and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission has concluded that the
Redevelopment Powers Law offers powerful and effective tools for stimulating redevelopment;
and
WHEREAS, before the Redevelopment Powers Law may be implemented, the Georgia
General Assembly must adopt local legislation calling a referendum, and the voters of Augusta-
Richmond County must approve a referendum authorizing exercise of the Redevelopment
Powers Law.
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved as follows:
1. The Augusta-Richmond County Commission requests the Augusta-Richmond
County delegation to the Georgia General Assembly to introduce and obtain approval during the
2005 legislative session a local act authorizing the consolidated government to exercise all
redevelopment powers allowed by law and to provide for a referendum.
2. Notice of intent to introduce such legislation was advertised In The Augusta
Chronicle, the legal organ of the County, on February 10,2005.
This Resolution shall be recorded in the Minutes of the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission and copies shall be distributed to all members of the Augusta-Richmond County
legislative delegation.
