RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING RICHMOND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO SUPPORT
LEGISLATION INCREASING REIMBURSEMENT
FOR STATE PRISONERS HOUSED IN
CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
WHEREAS,
Georgia law currently reimburses
local
governments $12.50 per day for housing state prisoners; and
WHEREAS, it costs Richmond County in excess of $40.00 to
house inmates; and
WHEREAS, the state has a shortage of beds and is
dependent upon county correctional institutions to house state
inmates; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond
County Commission that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation
is requested to support legislation to increase the state
reimbursement for housing inmates from $12.50 per day to $20.00 per
,day.
Duly adopted by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission
