RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE RICHMOND COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS
TO CALL A REFERENDUM AS PROVIDED BY ACT NO. 862 - "THE
REDEVELOPMENT POWERS ACT"
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission desires to promote eCOIiomic
redevelopment within Richmond County; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission is seeking new economic
development incentives that may be used to stimulate redevelopment of distressed and
underdeveloped areas of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission has investigated the option of
utilizing the Redevelopment Powers Law, O.C.G.A. 36-44-1 et. seq., to provide redevelopment
incentives and assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission hasconc1uded that the
Redevelopment Powers Law offers powerful and effective tools for stimulating economic
redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia General Assembly in its 2006 session has adopted local
legislation authorizing a referendum on said Act No. 862, and the voters of Augusta-Richmond
County must approve said Act in a referendum authorizing the use of the Redevelopment Powers
Law.
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved as follows:
1. The Augusta-Richmond County Commission requests the Richmond County
Board of Elections to issue a call for a special election on said Redevelopment Powers Act to be
held November 7,2006.
2. This Resolution, shall be recorded in the Minutes of the Augusta-Richmond
County Commission and copy shall be distributed to the Richmond County Board of Elections.
