RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION FOR A GRANT UNDER
THE GEORGIA RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM FOR THE PURPOSE OF
CONSTRUCTING TRAILS ON PROPERTY PURCHASED FOR THE AUGUSTA
RICHMOND COUNTY GREENSP ACE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, funds are allocated under the Recreational Trails Program of SAFETEA-LU
for the purpose of providing and maintaining recreational trails and trail related facilities;
and
WHEREAS, these funds are made available by the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources to Federal and State agencies, and local governments to benefit the various
modes of trail use; and
WHEREAS, Augusta Richmond County has acquired over seven hundred (700) acres for
the purpose of preserving green space and providing opportunities for passive recreation,
and one of those tracts consisting of fifty-four (54) acres of floodplains and wetlands has
been made partially accessible with trails; and
WHEREAS, grant funds could be used to,complet~ trail system and supporting
facilities for approximately $100,000 at that prop~rty. "
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL YED that the Augusta Richmond County
Commission submit an application for the subject grant funds in the amount of $100,000
prior to the application deadline of November 30, 2006.
