Resolution In Support of the
Consolidated Plutonium Center (CPC) Facility
At the Savannah River Site.
WHEREAS, A Department of Energy (DOE) Hearing has been scheduled for
Thursday, November 9, 2006 to begin the process for siting a major new mission;
and
WHEREAS, DOE is streamlining its Research & Development Production facilities
and will build a new "Consolidated Plutonium Center" (CPC) to perform plutonium R
& D and production manufacturing activities; and
WHEREAS, the Consolidated Plutonium Center will be a multi-billon dollar facility,
stimulating significant job growth in our community; and
WHEREAS, the new Consolidated Plutonium Complex (CPC) project combines
plutonium research and development (R&D) with plutonium manufacturing in a
much more attractive mission for SRS with greater economic impact for the
surrounding communities and with its extensive expertise, experience and well-
trained workforce, SRS is well suited for this mission and should be a leading
contender for this initiative.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission wholeheartedly supports the construction of the new Consolidated
Plutonium Complex (CPC) at the Savannah River Site.
