RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE
RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION
TO MODIFY THE ENTERPRISE ZONE
EMPLOYMENT ACT OF 1997,
)
WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone Employment Act of 1997 (O.c.G.A. S 36-88-1,
et seq.), provides for county tax abatement for certain commercial and industrial construction
and improvements; and
WHEREAS, this abatement currently only applies to county taxes, and does not
extend to school board taxes; and
WHEREAS, the abatement currently is further restricted in that it does not apply
to residential construction and/or residential rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, it is the Augusta-Richmond County Commission's desire to have
said Act amended to broaden the scope of the tax abatement to residential construction and/or
residential rehabilitation and to extend the abatement to school taxes; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission believes that the use of
such abatements for improvements to residential property within Enterprise Zones would help
reduce urban blight;
NOW, THEREFORE,. be it resolved by the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation is encouraged to support general
legislation amending the Enterprise Zone Employment Act of 1997 (O.C.G.A. S 36-88-1, et seq.)
