RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RICHMOND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO SUPPORT
LEGISLATION TO MODIFY O.C.G.A. SECTION 31-11-3
TO ALLOW LOCAL GOVERNMENT GREATER
CONTROL IN THE DELIVERY OF EMERGENCY
MEDICAL SERVICES.
WHEREAS, under current state law, local governmental agencies must
request the approval of the Emergency Medical Services Council (EMS Council)
prior to entering into a contract with an Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
, provider; and
WHEREAS, the current procedure is burdensome and allows very little
flexibility for the local governing authority; and
WHEREAS, the local governing authority plays a major role in
furnishing emergency medical services to the citizens of the local community by
assuming part of the financial responsibility of this service;
WHEREAS, the local governing authority should have greater control of
the administration of the local emergency medical services program and be
allowed to decide, subject to the approval of the EMS Council, and
WHEREAS, it is the Augusta-Richmond County Commission's desire to
have said Act amended to broaden the authority of the local government in the
selection of an ambulance provider for the local community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE AUGUSTA-
RICHMOND COUNTY COMMISSION expresses its support for general
legislation amending O.C.G.A. S 31-11-3 to permit the local government greater
authority to select the ambulance provider, subject to the approval of the EMS
Council.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Richmond County Legislative
Delegation is encouraged to support for general legislation amending O.C.G.A.
