RESOLUTION REQUESTING RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION ALLOWING SPECIAL PURPOSE
LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX MONIES TO BE USED FOR OPERATION AND
MAINTENANCE AND FOR LIBRARY BOOKS
w.HEREAS, Georgia law currently restricts the use of Special Purpose
Local Options Sales Tax monies to certain defined capital outlay projects; and
WHEREAS, the use of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax monies to
/
build and construct recreational facilities and other facilities is increasing
the costs of local governments to operate and maintain such facilities; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to use Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax
monies to operate and maintain facilities construct with such funds; and
WHEREAS, Georgia law does not currently allow use of Special Purpose
Local Option Sales Tax money to be used for the purchase of library books,
although this is a capital expenditure;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission that th~ Richmond County Legislative Delegation is requested to
support legislation to allow Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax monies to be
used to operate and maintain projects constructed with such funds and for the
purchase of library books.
Duly adopted by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission this ~t) day
