RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION TO SPONSOR LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING COUNTIES
TO ESTABLISH MARCH 1 AS THE DEADLINE FOR PROPERTY TAX
RETURNS
WHEREAS, Georgia law currently provides for property tax returns to be filed on or
before March 31; and
WHEREAS, Richmond County, prior to 1993, was subject to a population statute that
. established March 1 as the deadline for property tax returns; and
WHEREAS, the March 31 deadline imposes hardships on the Board of Tax Assessors
office to compile the tax digest in a timely manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation is requested to introduce and
sponsor appropriate legislation to allow counties to establish March 1 as the deadline for the
filing of property returns.
Duly adopted by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission this l.a.- day of February,
2007.
