Resolution Of Condolences
WHEREAS, Joe L. Scott, Jr. was a native of Waynesboro, Georgia known by many for his compassionate community spirit; and
WHEREAS, Joe L. Scott, Jr., graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School; he received a number of degrees
including: Paine College, Bachelor of Arts, South Carolina State University, Master of Education, Tuskegee Institute, Education
Specialist in Educational Administration. He also attended Augusta State University, University of Georgia, and Georgia Tech.
In addition, he was a graduate of Leadership Augusta and in 1999 he was inducted into the Paine College Sports Hall of Fame
for Track & Field and Football; and
WHEREAS, Joe L. Scott, Jr. worked in the Richmond County School System for years as a Science teacher, assistant principal,
principal and Director of Human Relations. He was employed for ten years as Director of Development for the Central
Savannah River Area Planning and Development Commission as well as serving in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Joe L. Scott, Jr. served on the Richmond County Board of Education, the Augusta Aviation Commission, the
Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority and was a member of several civic organizations and the Tabernacle Baptist
Church where he served as a church trustee, Boy Scout leader, Baptist Training Union (BYU) teacher, Vacation Bible School
instructor and a member of the Freddie P. Jackson Sunday School Class. He received numerous humanitarian honors and
awards for his tireless work to improve the living conditions for all citizens of Augusta; and
WHEREAS, Joe. L. Scott, Jr., spent the majority of his life as a husband, father, public servant, and churchman serving the
people of Augusta, the State of Georgia and our country; his hard-working ways will be sorely missed by all of us who knew and
loved him; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Augusta Commission were deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Joe L. Scott, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS, the family, friends, constituents and colleagues of Joe L. Scott, Jr. will remember as a man who "tried to do what
he believed in his heart was right", who used his passion to especially help senior citizens and children, which was exemplified
through his leadership; may we always remember and never, ever forget his love, concern and dedication for each of them, as he
shall forever live in their hearts; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED that it is with our sincere care and concern that we, the Augusta Commission of Richmond
County, Georgia, send these humble words expressing our heartfelt sympathy. May you find comfort in knowing that others care
and share your loss.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution beforwarded to thefamily andfriends of Richmond County Board
of Education Trustee Joe L. Scott, Jr. this 28th day of July, in the year of our Lord, 2009.
