RESOLUTION IN RECONIGTION OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF
JAMES L. LESTER, JR.
WHEREAS, Jimmy Lester is a practicing attorney in Augusta, Georgia,
having been admitted to the Bar in 1957; and
WHEREAS, he first offered for elected office in 1971 and was elected to
the Georgia State Senate representing Richmond County;
WHEREAS, Jimmy Lester served from 1971 to 1985 in the Georgia
Senate;
WHEREAS, Jimmy Lester was appointed to the Georgia Department of
Transportation Board by a vote of all Senators and Representatives in the State
Legislature representing the Eleventh District; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Lester served fifteen years on the Georgia
Department of Transportation Board and because of his tireless efforts and
exemplary service on said Board, the following projects were authorized for
Augusta:
Construction of Riverwatch Parkway;
1-520 Extension into South Carolina;
Four lane expansion of Mike Padgett Highway; and
Reconstruction of the 1-520 and 1-20 Interchange.
This Resolution is adopted to express the appreciation of the elected
representative and the citizens of Augusta-Richmond County for Jimmy Lester's
excellent record of public service.
