'" ( cit :lll-,-"'" F ,'" /1'- 3a i RESOLUTION RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO MAKE PROVISIONS FOR A "HOMELAND SECURITY" EXEMPTION IN THE OPEN MEETINGS ACT WHEREAS, the Open Meetings Act requires local governments to afford the public access to its meetings excluding only certain limited proceedings from the Open Meetings Act; and WHEREAS, recent events have created the need for homeland security; and WHEREAS, public access to meetings where local government officials discuss security issues would compromise the efforts of local governments to provide a safe environment to its citizens and its employees; and WHEREAS, Augusta believes local government should be allowed to meet in closed session to discuss specific security considerations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE AUGUSTA- RICHMOND COUNTY COMMISSION expresses its support for a "Homeland, Security" exemption in the Open Meetings Act which exclude private citizens and news media from meetings to discuss security matters. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation is encouraged to support legislation for a "Homeland Security" exemption in the Open Meetings Act which exclude private citizens and news media from meetings to discuss security matters.
