WHEREAS, the Intermodal Surface Transportation Act of 1991 provided $5.9 million dollars in Federal funds for the construction of an overpass of the CSX railroad track at 15th Street and Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia; and WHEREAS, previous legislation, including, but not limited to, the 1973 Federal Highway Act, the 1976 Federal Aid Highway Act, and the 1978 Surface Transportation Act were written specifically for the relocation of railroads or the construction of overpasses; and WHEREAS, Augusta, Georgia, desires to have the maximum flexibility with the remaining money to design and construct improvements in the vicinity of 15th and Greene Street to improve traffic safety and to improve traffic flow; NOW, THE~EFORE, be it resolved that the Augusta-Richmond County Commission hereby requests the Congressional Delegation for Georgia to adopt appropriate authorization and appropriation legislation for the expenditure of existing funding for a project consisting of modifications and additions to streets, railroads, and related improvements which would reduce congestion and enhance traffic safety in the vicinity of the at-grade crossing of the CSX mainland railroad and 15th Street near Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia; and 1 I~ - ... ." .~ ~.~ ...... that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the members of said Duly adopted this delegation for their consideration and support. day of April, 1998. ?!i!!~ ~~ sits C !fl "'II '~Ull\.ftl Q1~mvtd 88 ~ffiC~?i~9i. 2
