RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OF ENDORSMENT
EVELYN TURNER PUGH
FOR SECOND VICE PRESIDENT
NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES
WHEREAS, Evelyn Turner Pugh, Councilor, City of Columbus, Georgia has
offered herself as a candidate for Second Vice President of the National League
of Cities (NLC) at the 2003 Congress of Cities meeting in Nashville, Tennessee;
and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Turner Pugh has an outstanding record of service with the
NLC through her contributions as: Chair, Public Safety & Crime Prevention
Steering Committee (1996); Vice Chair, Public Safety & Crime Prevention
Steering Committee (1995); member, Board of Directors (1998-2000); NLC
Representative, Crime Prevention Advisory Council (1997-1998); Chair,
Congress of Cities Program Committee (2001); member, Working Group on
Homeland Security (2003); and member, Advisory Council (2000 - present); and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Turner Pugh, as a leader in the Georgia Municipal
Association, having served as: President (1999-2000); member, Executive
Committee (1996-present); Chair, Public Safety & Criminal Justice Policy
Committee (1992-1994); member, Municipal Training Board (1990-present); and
Chair, Women in Municipal Government (1995); and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Turner Pugh has been a member of the Columbus
Consolidated Government City Council (1988-present); is currently the Incoming
Chair of the Liberty Theatre and has served as a Director on the Board of that
Theatre; as a member, Springer Theatre Board of Directors; Secretary,
RiverCenter Board of Directors; Secretary, Muscogee Excellence Educational
Foundation; Girls Inc., Board of Directors; Chair, Columbus Technical College
Board; Columbus Housing Initiative Board of Directors; Treasurer, Christmas in
April; S1. Francis Hospital Board of Directors; Governor's Policy Council on
Families and Children (1995-1998); and the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson
Institute of Government Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, the citizenry of Columbus and the State of Georgia have benefited
from her integrity, leadership and her no-nonsense approach to addressing basic
service delivery and quality of life issues that face many Georgians,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Augusta Commission does
hereby express its endorsement of the candidacy of Evelyn Turner Pugh for the
National League of Cities Second Vice President at the 2003 Congress of Cities
meeting in Nashville, Tennessee; and urges all delegates thereto to support her
candidacy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the official
minutes of the Augusta Commission and a copies hereof be sent to the National
League of Cities Conference, the Georgia Municipal Association, the City of
Columbus and Councilor Pugh.
Duly adopted this 19th day of August, 2003 by a vote of 10 yeas and Q nays with
