A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MARCH 30 - APRIL 5, 1998
AS AUGUSTA'S WEEK OF CELEBRATION IN OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK.
WHEREAS, the week of April 6 - 12, 1998 has been designated as National
Community Development Week, the Housing and Neighborhood Development
Department has elected to celebrate this special occasion a week earlier due to the
eventful Master's Tournament. Augusta, Georgia is a participant in the Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program which funds a myriad of social serVIce,
economic development and housing programs in this community, and
WHEREAS, in this community and in communities throl,lghout the nation,
twenty-four years of Community Development Block Grant Program funding has
developed a strong working network of relationships between this local government,
residents of neighborhoods and the many nonprofit agencies which provide services and
help make possible our commitment to those neighborhoods, and
WHEREAS, this community recognizes that the Community Development Block
Grant Program is a partnership of federal, state and local government, business,
Nonprofit and community efforts, and that the services funded by the Federal CDBG
program, administered by the local government and often delivere? by local nonprofit
organizations, relies heavily on the dedication and goodwill of our combined efforts.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, during March 30 - April 5, 1998, devotion
to the neighborhoods and their low and moderate income residents will help insure the
quality and effe.ctiveness of the Community Development Block Grant Program, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the ,Mayor and the Commission of
Augusta-Richmond County join in designating March 30 - April 5, 1998, as our local
, ,
observance of "National Community Development Week", and hereby call upon the
citizens of Augusta to observe this week celebrating the Community Development Block
Grant Program.
