RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RICHMOND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO SUPPORT
LEGISLATION TO CHANGE THE DEADLINE FOR
FILING PROPERTY RETURNS FROM APRIL 1 TO
FEBRUARY 1
WHEREAS, Augusta has more than 10,000 businesses and personal
property accounts; and
WHEREAS, historically, 90 percent of the property accounts are filed
between March 15th and April I st of each year; and
WHEREAS, it is almost impossible for the Tax Assessor's office to
properly review the returns and process the data to prepare the digest ill order to
deliver the digest to the Department of Revenue by August I of each.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE AUGUSTA-
RICHMOND COUNTY COMMISSION expresses its support for general
legislation to change the deadline for filing property returns to February 1 st of
each year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Richmond County Legislative
Delegation is encouraged to a change the deadline for making property returns to
February 1st of each year.
