RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING STATE OF GEORGIA TO REINSTATE - THE
STATE BUILDING GRANTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PUBLIC LIBRARY
FACILITIES AND FOR THE RENOVATION AND REPAIR OF EXISTING
LIBRARY FACILITIES
WHEREAS, in the past approximately 15 years over 112 public
library buildings have been built throughout Georgia, but additional
facilities are needed because of the continuing growth of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, a state construction program would be a tremendous
benefit in building new facilities and would eliminate the necessity of each
local delegation in the state from having to secure funding for its own
local construction needs; and
WHEREAS, the existing grant program needs to be brought up-to-date
and funded annually as in past years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission that the Richmond County Legislative Delegation is requested to
introduce and sponsor appropriate legislation to reinstate the state
Building Grants Program'for Construction of Public Library Facilities and
amend said program to include renovation and repair of existing library
buildings.
Duly adopted by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission this ~
day of January, 1998.
