HomeMy WebLinkAboutCONDOLENCE CORETTA SCOTT KING ~itlJ Q1}f J\4n ~'Ctf ~q-8-~ c> RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE WHEREAS, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, affectionately known as the First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement was born on April 27, 1927 in Perry County, Alabama; and WHEREAS, Mrs. King graduated from Lincoln Normal School in Marion, Alabama at the top of her class in 1945, graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, attended the New England Conservatory in Boston, and received honorary degrees from many institutions including Princeton University and Bates College; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, worked tirelessly along side her husband the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement and in 1962 on behalf of the Women's Strikefor Peace served as a delegate to the 17-nation Disarmament Conference in Geneva, Switzerland; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Coretta Scott King was the founder of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia and also succeeded in achieving her goalto get her husband's birthday honored as a national holiday; and WHEREAS, Mrs. King's soft-spoken and hard-working ways will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her; and WHEREAS, the members of the Augusta Commission were deeply sadden to learn of her passing; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is with our sincere care and concern that we, the Augusta Commission of Richmond County, Georgia, send these humble words expressing our heartfelt sympathy. May you find comfort in knowing that others care and share your loss. BE IT FURTHER RESOL VED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family and friends of Mrs. Coretta Scott King this tth day of February, in the year of our Lord, 20 6.
