RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RICHMOND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO AMEND THE
CONSOLIDATION ACT [1995 GA. LAWS, P. 3648, AS
AMENDED] TO PROVIDE FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO
FILL A VACANCY ON THE AUGUSTA-RICHMOND COUNTY
COMMISSION OR IN THE OFFICE OF MAYOR
WHEREAS,
the Consolidation Act already provides
for a special election to fill such a vacancy when the unexprired
term exceeds 28 calendar months; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the~ Augusta-Richmond
County Commission that the Consolidation Act be amended to provide
that any vacancy which occurs ln the office of the mayor or in the
membership of the commission by death, resignation, removal from
the commission district, or for any other reason, should be by a
special election rather than an appointment, when the unexpired
term does not exceed 28 calendar months; and
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Commission that
such a provision will be in the best interests of the citizens of
Richmond County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by. the Augusta-
Richmond County Commission that the Legislative Delegation of
Richmond County is requested to introduce at the 1999 Legislative
Session of the General Assembly local legislation to provide that
any vacancy which occurs in the office of the mayor or in the
membership of commission by-death, resignation, removal from the
commission district, or for any other reason, when the unexpired
