RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE
RICHMOND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION TO AMEND THE ACT
CREATING THE BOARD OF TAX
ASSESSORS FOR RICHMOND COUNTY TO
CLARIFY THAT ANY MEMBER SERVING
ON SAID BOARID MUST BE A RESIDENT OF
RICHMOND COUNTY AND PROVIDING
THAT ANY MEMBER WHO CEASES TO BE
A RESIDENT OF RICHMOND COUNTY
SHALL V ACA TE HIS SEAT

WHEREAS, 1973 Ga. Laws, p. 2812, as amended by 1974 Ga. Laws, p. 3069, S
1, and 1993 Ga. Laws, p. 4482, S 1, creating the Richmond County Board of Tax Assessors
provides, in part, as follows:
Said Board shall consist of three times as many members as there
are state Senate districts w~olly or partially within Richmond
County. The members of the county board of tax assessors shall
be appointed by the governing authority of the county.
Appointments shall be made such that each state Senate district

within Richmond County has residing therein three (3) members of
the board of tax assessors;
WHEREAS, the current senatorial districting for the 23rd Senatorial District
encompasses more than just Richmond County; and '
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission desires that such

legislation be clarified to provide that any member of the Board of Tax Assessors must be a

resident of Richmond County, and must remain a resident of Richmond County so long as he
serves on said Board of Tax Assessors;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Augusta-Richmond County
Commission that the local legislation establishing the Richmond County Board of Tax Assessors
to clarify that any member serving on the Board of Tax Assessors must be a resident of
Richmond County and must remain a resident of Richmond County during his service on the
Board of Tax Assessors, and further providing that upon any such member ceasing to be a
resident of Richmond County, such seat shall be deemed vacated.
