RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RICHMOND
COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AMEND THE
CONSOLIDATION ACT [1995 GA. LAWS, P.
3648] TO CHANGE THE NAME OF RICHMOND
COUNTY TO AUGUSTA-RICHMOND COUNTY; TO
PROVIDE THAT IT CONTRACT AND SUE AND BE
SUED IN THE NAME OF AUGUSTA-RICHMOND
COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT ALL PROPERTY
FORMERLY IN THE NAME OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF AUGUSTA, RICHMOND COUNTY, OR THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF RICHMOND
COUNTY BE TITLED IN THE NAME OF AUGUSTA-
RICHMOND COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the Consolidation Act [1995 Ga. Laws, p. 3648]
designated the governing authority of Richmond County as the Augusta-
Richmond County Commission-Council; and
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission Council has
through Home Rule changed the name of said commission to the Augusta-
Richmond County Commission; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Augusta-Richmond
County Commission that the name of the consolidated entity be
established as Augusta-Richmond County and that it contract, sue and
be sued in that name, and that all property formerly in the name of
The City Council of Augusta, Richmond County, and the Board of
Commissioners of Richmond County, be titled in the name of Augusta-
Richmond County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta-Richmond
County Commission that the Legislative Delegation of Richmond County
is requested to introduce at the 1997 Legislative Session of the
General Assembly local legislation to change the name of the
political subdivision of the state of Georgia created as a result of
the Consolidation Act to the Augusta-Richmond County Commission; that
said entity contract and sue and be sued in the name of Augusta-
Richmond County; and that all property formerly in the name of The
City Council of Augusta, Richmond County, and the Board of

Duly adopted this 7th day of January, 1997.
