RESOLUTION
ABANDONING PORTION OF WALKER STREET TO
RICHMOND COUNTY PUBLIC FACILITIES, INC.
AND AUTHORIZING CONVEYANCE
WHEREAS, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission resolved
by Resolution dated August 6, 1996, that the portion of Walker
Street lying within the proposed Davidson Magnet School site, as
shown on a Compiled Map for Richmond County Board of Education by
Cranston, Robertson & Whithurst, P.C., dated August 5, 1996, has
ceased to be used by the public to the extent that no substantial
public purpose is served by it;
WHEREAS, the adjoining property owners to the property
described above have been notified of the August 6,
1996
Resolution, and the request for abandonment; notice of the
Resolution has been published in the Augusta Chronicle once a week
for a period of two weeks, and a public hearing on the proposed
abandonment was conducted on March 31, 1997, with no objections

being made;

WHEREAS, by virt~e of the events set forth above,
the

above identified property is deemed abandoned and no longer a part
of the Richmond County road system;

WHEREAS, notice has been'giveB to the owner of abutting
holding title. through t~w~~r from whom Augusta-Richmond

County acquired the property of said owner's right to acquire the
land described above;
WHEREAS, Richmond County Public Facilities, Inc. has
communicated its desire to acquire the above described property;
and
WHEREAS, the property in question has been appraised at

a value of $2,800.00 by appraiser .Jack L. Minor, an appraisal
prepared at the request of Augusta-Richmond County and dated March
24,1997;
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved as follows:
1. It is hereby determined that all requirements of
Georgia law for the abandonment of a county roadway have been met
and that the section of Walker Street referred to in the Augusta-
Richmond County Commission1s August 6, .1996, Resolution and
described above is no longer a part of the Richmond County road
system.
2. Richmond County Public Facilities, Inc. has properly
exercised its right to acquire the property described above.
3. The Mayor of the 'Augusta-Richmond County Commission,
as successor to the Richmond County Board of Commissioners, shall
execute a Quit-Claim Deed and such other documentation as may
reasonably be required, in forms approved by the County Attorney,
conveying all of Richmond County's interest in the property, which

interest is subject to all easements of record for utilities, to
Richmond County Public Facilities, Inc. The value of this property
shall be added to the County's reversionary interest in the
Davidson Magnet School property.
This Resolution shall be recorded in the Minutes of the
Augusta-Richmond County Commission, accompanied by the exhibits
referred to herein.
