Policy Title - ON-CALL POLICY Policy Purpose - To explain the policy and provide guidelines for paying employees while On-Call or Standby for work. Definition - On-Call is defined as the period of time during which an employee must remain available to come in to work after normal duty hours. An employee shall not be compensated for being on-call (wearing a pager or carrying a phone is not considered in itself to be On-Call) unless the employee is restricted to their home or Augusta- Richmond County premises for the purpose of responding. POLICY 1. Employees who are officially on-call must report to work within a reasonable time after being contacted by Augusta-Richmond County and told to report to work. 2. Employees who are to be contacted for work by telephone or by a pager unit. (a) P,ager units shall be carried by employee (b) E':"lployees who are to be contacted by telephone must leave a telephone number where they may be reached, or make arrangements to call in on a periodic basis. 3. Hours worked by an Exempt Employee called in to work will be considered part of the exempt employee's normal BI-weekly salary. 4. Hours worked by a Non-Exempt employee called in to work will be paid pursuant to the guidelines of the FLSA Standard. (a) Non-Exempt employees called in to work (physically report) shall be paid at the employee's regular base salary for a minimum of four hours and for any actual hours worked. Those employees called in to work (do not physically report) will be paid a minimum of two hours and for any actual hours worked. (b) Non-Exempt employees called in to work shall be paid overtime (IX 1/2) for any hours worked over 40 hours in a week. (c) In both A and B, employees may be compensated via COMP TIME in lieu of actual payment. In either case, if time to be paid EXCEEDS 40 hours in a week the COMP TIME will be paid at the overtime rate (1 X ~ times their regular rate) Approved by Commission July 20, 1999.
