AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE AUGUSTA-RICHMOND
COUNTY CODE SECTION 1-9-17 SO AS TO PROHIBIT
GASOLENE POWERED OR DIESEL POWERED BOATS ON
THE CANAL WITHOUT PERMISSION; TO PROHIBIT
MOTORIZED VEHICLES ON PUBLIC PROPERTY WITHIN
THE AUGUSTA CANAL NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA
WITHOUT PERMISSION; TO PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE
DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE AUGUSTA-RICHMOND COUNTY COMMISSION
AND IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE AUTHORITY OF SAME AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Augusta Richmond County Code Section 1-9-17 is hereby amended by
striking said section which reads as follows:
~ 1-9-17. PERMIT FOR OPERATION OF ENGINE-
DRIVEN BOAT REQUIRED.
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any engine-
driven boat on the canal without first obtaining a written permit
from the director of the Utilities Department.
and substituting in lieu thereof a new section, to be known as 9 1-9-17, to read as
follows:
91-9-17. . PERMIT FOR OPERATION OF ENGINE-
DRIVEN BOAT OR VEHICLE REQUIRED.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any
gasoline or diesel powered boat on the Augusta Canal without first
obtaining a written permit from the Executive Director of the
Augusta Canal Authority.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any
motorized vehicle on any public property within the boundaries of
the Augusta Cahal National Heritage Area, unless such area is

designated as a public street or public parking area, without first
obtaining a written permit from the Executive Director of the
Augusta Canal Authority.
Section 2.
All laws or ordinances or parts of laws or ordinances in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3.
This Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
