HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP HENRY HOWARD WHEREAS, Henry Howard, affectionately known by many of his friends and colleagues as "Mr. Howard" for his quiet and gentleman spirit was born June 18,1930, in Augusta, Georgia; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard attended public schools in the Richmond County School System; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard was a promoter of gospel music for more than 50 years, one of the founders of the Spirits of Harmony Gospel Quartet and was the Executive Producer of the Parade of Quartets TV Broadcast, which is in its 51st year; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard served on the Richmond County Board of Commission from 1985 to 1990, elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1990 serving as Richmond County's longest-serving State House member representing the 121st District where he served as former chairman of Human Relations & Aging Committee; served on the Economic Development & Tourism, Science & Technology, a"d Transportation Committees and at the time of his death Chairman of the Richmond County Legislative Delegation; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard was the founder of Howard's Enterprises, which includes Howard's Upholstery, Uniformals Unlimited and Tina's Shoe Gallery and a member of the Greene Grove Missionary Baptist Church for sixty years; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard's hard-working ways will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him and loved him and the members of the Augusta Commission were deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Henry Howard; and WHEREAS, Henry Howard spent the majority of his life as a public servant and statesma" serving the people of Augusta, the State of Georgia and our country; and WHEREAS, the family, friends, and colleagues of He"ry Howard, who some called "a man of peace and courage; a great leader, a mentor, a quiet mover and shaker, a true public serva"t and one who served honorably and with humility and who always kept his word", which was exemplified through his leadership and demonstrated through his tireless devotion to the betterment of Augusta, giving of his time and talents that they may always remember and never, ever forget his love, co"cern and commitment for each of them, as he shall forever live in their hearts; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VBD that it is with our sincere care and concern that we, the Augusta Commission of Richmond County, Georgia, send these humble words expressing our heartfelt sympathy. May you find comfort in knowing that others care and share your loss. BE IT FURTHER RESOL VBD, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family and friends of State Representative He"ry Howard this Ih day of October in the year of our Lord, 2005.
