The undersigned a.grees to indemnify and hold harmless the Georgia Department of Tnlnsportacion, the Scate of Georgia, its agencies
and instrumentalities and all of their respective officers, members, employees and dinictors (collectively referred Co as the "OOT")

special events can be approved in situations where local streets are on or off the State ROUle System, and that the bOT makes,no

involved in approving this traffic control plan. The undersigned further acknowledg~s that the DOT has relied upon the

ESI Ironman 70.3 Augusta Traffic Control Plan
Overview
The ESi Ironman 70.3 Augusta is a 70.3-mile triathlon. The race will begin at 7am with a 1.2-
mile swim in the Savannah River, transition to a 56-mile cycling leg from Augusta, through
Aiken County, then retuning back into downtown Augusta. The race will finish with a 13.1-mile
run through downtown Augusta. The winner is expected to finish around 10:45 am. The last
competitor should finish by 4pm.
Cycling Route
The transition area from swimming to cycling will take place at the Boathouse (101 Riverfront
Rd.). The first competitors should be on the cycling route by 7:30 am. Cyclists will go through
the levee onto East Boundary. From East Boundary the cyclists will turn left on Sand Bar Ferry
(SR-28). The cyclists will proceed into South Carolina.
After completing a circuit through Aiken County, the cyclists will return to Augusta via Sand
Bar Ferry. The cyclists will turn right on Prep Phillips Drive and proceed to the transition area.
Organizers anticipate the cycling route being clear of competitors by 1 pm.
Safety Considerations
Deputies from the Augusta Sheriff s Office will control traffic as the cyclists ride onto East
Boundary, and then turn left (heading east) on Sand Bar Ferry. Augusta Deputies will control
major intersections (ingress/egress) until the cyclists cross into South Carolina. Volunteer course
marshals will cover smaller side streets and businesses.
Sand Bar Ferry will be open to car traffic. Both outside lanes (egress/ingress) will be lined with
traffic cones to "encourage" cars to stay in the inside lanes.
Run Route
Upon completing the cycling leg, athletes will transition to the run. The athletes will cross
through the levee onto East Boundary. The route will turn left onto Greene St. Greene St. will be
taken to 13th St. The route turn right on 13th St. The runners will then turn left on Broad St. The
route will follow broad St. to Sibley. Turn left on Sibley, then immediately turn left on Broad St.
The route will follow Broad St. to 12th St. Turn right on 12th St. Turn right on Jones St. Turn
right on Reynolds St. The route will follow Reynolds St. to Riverfront Dr. Veer left on
Riverfront Dr. Follow Riverfront Dr. to East Boundary. Repeat circuit. On the final lap the
athletes will turn into Augusta Common from Reynolds St.
Safety Considerations
A half-lane will be coned the entire length of the race route. Deputies from the Augusta Sheriffs
Office will control all major intersections. Volunteer course marshals will cover small side
streets and businesses.
