Reference is made to our letter of distribution dated January 29,2002, which transmitted an Order of the Commissioner 3296. This Order approved the widening of Walton Way Extension, Davis Road (Richmond County Road 1505 and Columbia County Road 572) and the relocation of Toucan Road onto new alignment at its junction with Davis Road. To accommodate this project, it was necessary to add sections of existing and projected roadway to the State Highway System as State Routes 1056 and 1056TA until construction was completed. By copy of this letter, the improvements have been completed. Therefore, the Contract for M(lintenance of Highways 3296M has been terminated, and all other related revisions under Order 3296 are now in effect. While the State Route designations have been removed from the subject roadways, this transfer does not alleviate the contractor from any outstanding responsibilities associated with this project. WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Transportation (hereinafter called the Department) is planning to support preconstruction activities for the widening of Walton Way ExtensionlDavis Road and the relocation of Toucan Road onto new alignment at its junction with Davis Road in Columbia and Richmond Counties, under Project STP-7006(6); and WHEREAS, to accommodate preconstruction activities for this project, it will be necessary to temporarily add these sections of roadway, as shown on the attached sketch map, to the State Highway System as temporary State Routes 1056 and 1056T A until construction is completed; and WHEREAS, Columbia and Augusta-Richmond Counties have executed a Contract for Maintenance of Highways 3296M agreeing to continue to maintain Walton Way Extension and Davis Road (Richmond County Road 1505 and Columbia County Road 572) while being improved and after improvements are completed; and WHEREAS, Augusta-Richmond County has executed a resolution agreeing to accept for maintenance and as part of their local road system, the new alignment of Toucan Road (SR~ 1056T A) when removed from the State Highway System. NOW THEREFORE, in the public interest, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, under the authority vested in him pursuant to the laws of the State of Georgia, does hereby order and direct that the State Highway System be revised as described in the following paragraphs. (1) Add to the State Highway System sections of Walton Way Extension and Davis Road (Richmond County Road 1505 and Columbia County Road 572), to be temporarily designated as State Route 1056 until Project STP-7006(6) is completed, beginning at its junction with' Skinner Mill Road (Richmond County Road 585) and extending in a northerly direction to its junction with Washington Road (State Route 104). Addition of 1.22 miles (1.96 krn) in Richmond County. Addition of 0.44 mile (0.71 krn) in Columbia County. Continued.. . 3296 66(1127H) PAGE TWO OF TWO (2) Add to the State Highway System a section of projected alignment, to be temporarily designated as State Route 1056T A until Project STP-7006(6) is completed, beginning at its point of junction with Davis Road (Richmond County Road 1505) and extending easterly to its point of junction with Toucan Road (Richmond County Road 1347) and Ravenwood Drive (Richmond County 1318).. Addition of approximately 0.12 mile (0.19 krn) projected in Richmond County. The foregoing descriptions are in conformity with sketch map 3296 and plans for Project STP- 7006(6); appearing in the General Office files of the Georgia Department of Transportation, of which a copy of the sketch map is attached for reference. + .i>- ____ This)!
