RE: Cotton Exchange Building Lease/Purchase -February 21, 1997 Meeting
Dear Randy,
This letter is in response to Commissioner Bill Kuhlke's request for a commitment from the
Augusta Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau (AMCVB) to occupy office space on the
second floor of the Cotton Exchange building.
The AMCVB agrees to sublease the second floor of the Cotton Exchange from the City/County
for a period of two (2) years. This is pending a mutually agreeable lease amount that has not yet
been determined, but should be comparable to similar downtown office space.
Our reasoning for'this decision includes the following thoughts:
Our two year commitment corresponds directly with the two year lease renewal clause
required by the City/County.
At the February 21 meeting, we agreed the second floor is not suitable for productive
office space.
The Al\1CVB anticipates additional space requirements in the future which the Cotton
Exchange cannot provide.
4. During the next two years, the AMCVB can provide assista..l1ce in determining the best
use for the second floor of the building.
