WHEREAS the below Contractor entered into a contract with the Department of Transportation, on March 24. 1998, for the construction
of Project No. PRLOP-8530-55 (245) C 1 ,Richmond County and,
WHEREAS, certain items of construction encountered are not covered by the original contract, the Parties hereby agree to the following
amendment to the original contract:
THIS SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT IS FOR A REVISION OF THE TYPICAL SECTION FOR W AL TON WAY FROM ST A. .
44+50 TO ST A. 50+50.
It is agreed that as a result of this amendment the contract time will not be extended.
Time is extended as follows:
Except as specifically amended herein, all terms and conditions of the original contract remain in full force and effect. The sum set forth in
this contract amendment constitutes full paYment and settlement of all additional costs and expenses including delay and impact damages caused by,
arising from or associated with the work described in this contract amendment.' .
Now Therefore, Mayor Of City Of Augusta, Contractor, hereby agrees to said contract amendment consisting of the above mentioned
items and prices, and agrees that this contract amendment is hereby made a part of e original contract to be performed under the specifications
thereof.

SECTION 455 - FILTER FABRIC FOR EMBANKMENT ST ABILIZA TION
455.01 DESCRIPTION: The work covered by this Section shall consist of placing Filter Fabric for
Embankment Stabilization as shown in the Plans or as directed by the Engineer.
.455.02 MATERIALS: Filter Fabric shall meet the requirements of Special Provision Section 881.06.
455.03 CONSTRUCTION: The work shall be constructed in accordance with the following
requirements:
A. Preparation of Ground Surface: The ground surface shall be free of any objects which would
tend to puncture the fabric.
B. Placement of Filter Fabric: Filter fabric shall be placed in a manner and at the locations shown
in the Plans. Fabrics should be sewn together under travel lanes. The fabric shall be placed
over the contour of the ground and spread as unifonnly as practical to avoid looseness. Field
sewn seams shall be made with a lock stitch and shall comply with the requirements for
factory seams as given in the material specifications. The fabric shall be protected from
chemicals and prolonged sunlight. Any fabric damaged by the Contractor's neglect shall be
replaced at no additional cost to the Department.
C. Fill Placement over Filter Fabric: Fill shall be placed over the filter fabric in accordance with
the Plans and applicable portions of Section 20~. At least 9 inches of aggregate shall be
maintained between the fabric and any construction equipment.
455.04 MEASUREMENT: This work will be measured for payment in square yards of accepted
materials in place. '
455.05 PAYMENT: Filter Fabric for embankment stabilization will be paid for the Contract Price per
square yard, complete and in place. Payment sh~dl be full compensation for furnishing materials,
placing materials, and sewing of fabric as required and for all labor, equipment, tools, and
incidentals necessary to perform the work,

SECTION 881- FABRICS
Retain Sub-Section 881.05.A as written and add the following:
Filter fabric for embankment stabilization shall be of a woven type. Fabric pre-sewing and field sewing
shall be made with a lock stitch and with high strength polypropylene, or nylon thread. The stitch and
sewing method shall be approved by the Engineer before use.
Delete Sub-Section 881.05.B as written and substitute the following:
Filter fabric to be used in embankment stabilization as indicated on the plans shall meet the following
minimum tensile strength requirements:
Tensile Strengths Ib.lin. width
Warp Direction Fill Direction
Fabric Type 5% Strain Ultimate 5% Strain Ultimate
Polyester 100 250 100 250
Polypropylene 100 400 100 400
Mmlmum Seam Strength = 50 Ib./in. Width
The ultimate strengths shown are based on reduction factors of 0.4 for polyester and 0.25 for
polypropylene from the tensile strengths at 5% strain. The use of reduction factors other than those
shown will be allowed only if verified by laboratory tests acceptable to the Department.
Delete Sub-Section 881.05.D in its entirety.
Delete Sub-Section 881.05.E as written and substitute the following.
When filter fabric is to be used in embankment stabilization, the method of testing these fabrics shall be
as follows:
Tensile Strength, Elongation
Seam Strength
ASTM D-4595 Wide Strip Test
ASTM D-4595 Wide Strip Test.
Tests are to be run at a strain rate of 10%/minute. Pre-tensioning will be considered 10 lb./in.
or 3%, whichever is less.
Delete Sub-Section 881.05.F as written and substitute the following:
The manufacturer shall supply a certification showing the physical properties of the material used and
conformance with the Specification in accordance with Sub-Section 106.05 of the current Specifications.
