We are delighted that we are actually making progress toward a new library and look forward to the groundbreaking on September 22nd and the GRAND opening in 2010. At the meeting, the Board considered the request ii-om our architecrural team, Studio 3Design/Craig, Gaulden, Davis for: au increa.<;e in their fees as a result of extra time and effort to come to a final resolution on the appearance of the new building. We felt that these design changes and the meetings from which they emerged, were n.ecessary to bring the community together behind the design. As the architectural team has shown in the attached letter, the changes did require more time and expense on their part. The Board voted unanimously that the increase should be granted as the expenses are documented. . ne Howington, Pr,csident JRC Public Libr.ry Board of Trustees Ene. aO'. July 1, 2008 Mr. Bob Munger, Construdion Program Manager Capital Improvement Program Management Augusta-Richmond County 501 Greene Street ~ Suife 313 Augusta, GA 30901 Re: East Central Georgia Regional library New Headquarters library Additional fee request Dear Bob: As you ore oware, the library Board has requested that our design team make revisions to the design of the new library in order to address the concerns from representatives of the Augusta Chronicle, Augusta Tomorrow, and Historic Augusto. The requested changes were discusSed with these groups in several meetings over a period of approximately three weeks. On Tuesday, June 17, the library Boord requested that our team move ahead with the proposed changes so that all revisions could be issued by an addendum to the general controdors, prior to the bid dote. The changes requested by the library Board are as follows: 1. Change the stone cladding at the main entrance element, on the corner of Telfair and James Brown Blvd., from black granite to limestone. This change entails revisions to the specifications cnd several wall section drawings. 2. Add three new windows at the southeast elevation of the building, at the third story level, into the exit stairwell. This change also entails several new window details, a new window type, and additional brick detailing on the exterior woll of that elevation. 3. Revise north elevation of the building, facing Green Street, to include two projected bays. This detail entails revisions to the exterior elevations, new window types, revisions to curtain wall framing, and several revised wall sedions for the bid documents. Strudural Richard .. Hinman.
