OFF -CAMPUS FEDERAL WORK-STUDY TERMS OF AGREEMENT
This agreement, effective this 1st day of July, 2001, is entered into between AUGUSTA STATE
UNIVERSITY, herein called the INSTITUTION, and Newman Tennis Center, herein after
called the AGENCY, for the purpose of providing meaningful employment and work experience
to students eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program, hereinafter called the
PROGRAM, under the Higher Education Act of 1965, (P.L. 89-329; 79 Stat.1219, as amended)
through employment offered by the AGENCY under the terms stipulated hereinafter. All terms
used herein shall be interpreted in accordance with any definitions thereof contained in the
Federal Work-Study Program, and this agreement, in its entirety, shall be construed so as to,
effectuate the purposes of the PROGRAM.
Whereas, by entering into this agreement, the AGENCY will receive the benefits of the services
of the student(s) employed and the INSTITUTION will benefit by, expanding its abilities to
enroll qualified students as a result of the funds which such students will receive through this
PROGRAM, the parties agree as follows:
FIRST: The AGENCY shall provide employment for the students duly certified by the
INSTITUTION and accepted by).he AGENCY. The AGENCY certifies that it is a (check one)
_federal, _state, or ~local public agency; OR ~rivate, non-profit organization
eligible to participate in this PROGRAM, and that the work performed by the student's
participating:
(1) will be work for which the AGENCY'S funds are available and,
(2) will not result in the displacement by such conditions of employment as will be
appropriated and reasonable in light of such factors as type of work performed,
geographical location, and ,_education level and proficiency of the student and any
applicable federal, state, or local legislation and,
(3) will be governed by such conditions of employment as will be appropriate and
reasonable in light of such factors as type of work performed, geographical location, and
education level and proficiency of the stude~t and any applicable federal, state, or local
legislation and,' -
(4) will not involve the construction, operation, or maintenance of so much of any facility as
is used or is to be used for-sectarian instruction or as a place of religious w~rship and,
(5) will not involve any partisan or nonpartisan political activity associated with a candidate,
or contending faction or group, in an election for public or party office and,

(6) will not be primarily for_ the benefit of the members of a limited membership
organization, rather than the public and,
(7) will, where possible, be related to each individual student's educational objectives and
background.
SECOND: It is agreed that the AGENCY SHALL:
1) Provide orientation to the student with regard to hours of duty, places of duties, working
conditions, briefing on safety, standards of conduct and familiarization with AGENCY
procedures. Such orientation shall be designed to aid the student in adjusting to the job
situation.
2) Provide the student with an explanation of his duties, performance requirements in terms
of quality, methods, and priorities, and the necessary basic corrective and progressive
training.
3) Provide on-site supervision of the employment activities of the student.
4) Establish and maintain such records, including time and attendance records, and provide
the INSTITUTION with a time care for each payroll period, certified by an authorized
employee of the AGENCY, indicating the hours worked. (Students cannot work during
scheduled class hours.)
5) Make prompt payment to the institution, upon receipt of an invoice from the
INSTITUTION, for an amount calculated to cover the AGENCY'S share - twenty-five
, percent (25%) of the compensation for students employed under the agreement.
6) Not permit any student to perform work on any project under this PROGRAM for more
than 25 hours in any week. ,
THIRD: Students will be made available to the AGENCY in a manner prescribed by the
INSTITUTION for perfornlance of specified work assignments. Student may be removed from
work on a particular assignment from the AGENCY by the INSTITUTION, either on it own
initiative or at the request of the AGENCY. The Agency agrees that no student will be denied
work or subjected to different treatment under this agreement on the grounds of race, color, sex,
or national origin, and that it will comply with the provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
(P.L. 88-352; 78 Stat. 225), and Regulations of the Department of Education which implement
those acts.
FOURTH: The AGENCY shall have the right to control and direct the services of the student
with regard to the work to be accomplished and the means by which it is to be accomplished.
The INSTITUTION shall determine that the student meets the eligibility requirements for
employment under the Federal Work-Study Prograni, assign students to work for the AGENCY,
and disburse the appropriated Federal Work-Study awards to students.

SCHEDULE
A. Type of Work to be Performed:
Students will be made available to the AGENCY by the INSTITUTION for performance of
specified work assignments. The number of students may be increased subject to availability of
funds and by mutual agreement between the INSTITUTION and the AGENCY.
The AGENCY will be responsible for the supervision of work performed by the students and
will make available to Augusta State University the names and locations of the supervisors of the

B. Hourly Rate of Compensation:

Students will be paid at the rate of$5.=f5* an hour, TWENTY-FIVE percent (25%) of which will
be paid by the AGENCY.

C. Limitations of Maximum Working Hours:
The number of hours a student may work each week will be established individually for each
student by the INSTITUTION. Utilization of the hours shall be of mutual consent between the
AGENCY and the student. A student cannot work in excess of twenty-five (25) hours in any
given week while classes are in session. Students are allowed to work up toforty hours per week
during vacation periods and the summer break. Working more than for~y hours per week is
prohibited at all times.
D. Duration of AGREEMENT:
The AGREEMENT will be effective July 1,2001 through June 30, 2002. (See PAGE 3, THIRD
ITEM FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION)

E. CERTIFICATION of SCHEDULE:
This schedule shall supersede all previous schedules, and shall become a part of the
AGREEMENT to which it is annexed hereto, in accordance of Paragraph 1 of said
AGREEMENT.

JOB CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTIONS
CLASSIFICATION I:
HOURLY RATE: $5.15 - 5.65
DESCRIPTION:
Regular responsibilities; prior experience not required; limited independent action, general
instruCtion required from supervisor;' moderate supervision is necessary.
CLASSIFICATION II:
HOURLY RATE: $5.66 - $6.16
DESCRIPTION:
Advanced responsibilities requiring independent action and resourcefulness in applying policies
and procedures and solving problems; prior related experience/skill required; little supervision is
necessary.
CLASSIFICATION III:
HOURLY RATE: $6.16 - $7.15
DESCRIPTION:
. Managerial, instructional, administrative, supervisory, research or technical responsibilities, as
are required of graduate assistants; prior related experience required for the kind of work
involved; independent thought and little supervision required.
LONGEVITY INCREASES:
Longevity increases recognize satisfactory perfomlances and length of employment. Students
who have completed one academic year of continuous employment may receive an hourly
increase that is consistent with the above classifications. The Office of Financial Aid reserves
the right to review ALL pay increases that exceed the above stated limit. ,
PROMOTIONS:
A department may promote a student to a different student position whenever appropriate. The
new position must be clearly distinguishable from the prior and documented with a written job
description and revised Departmental Referral.fornl that should be submitted to the Office of
Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to review all promotions.
