AN ACT
To amend an Act providing for the consolidation of Richmond
County and the City of Augusta, approved March 27, 1995 (Ga.
L. 1995, p. 3648), as amended, so as to designate the name
of the consolidated government as "Augusta, Georgia"; to
provide. for related matters; to provide an effective date;
to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
An Act providing for the consolidation of Richmond County
.and the City of Augusta, approved March 27, 1995 (Ga. L.
1995, p. 3648), as amended, is amended by adding at the end
of Section 1 the following:
"Said county-wide government shall be a new political
entity, a body politic and corporate, and a political
subdivision of the state to be known as 'Augusta,
Georgia,' at times in this Act called the 'consolidated
government' or 'Augusta-Richmond County,' having all the
governmental and corporate powers, duties, and functions
heretofore held by and vested in the City of Augusta and
Richmond County, and also the powers, duties, and
functions provided in this charter."
SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective on July 1, 1997.
SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.

organ of Richmond County on the following date:

The notice requirement of subsection (b) of Code Section 28-1-14
does not apply because the bill was requested by resolution or other WIitten
.notification of the governing authority of the affected county. municipality. or
consolidated government and ci copy of such resolution or other written
notification is attached hereto.
.' 'J1le notice requirement of subsection (hj of Code Section 28-1-14
does not apply because the bill is an annexation bill and a copy of the bill
was provided to the county governing authority within which the area
proposed to be annexed is located at the time the notice was published. as
required by Code Section 28-1-14.1.
