RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SETTLEMENT OF ALL CLAIMS BY
RONALD BLANTON (CLAIMANT) IN THE AGGREGATE SUM OF FOUR
HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS($400,000.00), PAYABLE AS FOLLOWS:
RONALD BLANTON AND GREGORY SMITH LAW,LLC AS HIS ATTORNEYS;
FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE THIRD-PARTY ADMINISTRATOR, CORVEL
CORPORATION, TO DISBURSE THE AMOUNT OF FOUR HUNDRED
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($400,000.00); WAIVING AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
CODE OF ORDINANCES SECTIONS IN CONFLICT FOR THIS INSTANCE
ONLY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Ronald Blanton filed a workers' compensation claim for injuries he
sustained on April 15, 2008, March 11, 2009, 2012,and January 24, 2014 while employed
with the Richmond County Sheriffs Office bearing claim number 2009-010679;
WHEREAS, all parties to said claim desire to settle all issues; and
WHEREAS, Claimant has agreed to settle all claims against Augusta-Richmond
County, Augusta-Richmond County Commission, and the Richmond County Sheriffs
Office, for the sum of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00), payable to Ronald
Blanton and Gregory Smith LLC, as his attorneys.
WHEREAS,it is in the best interests of Augusta, Georgia to resolve this matter and
pay the amount of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00) to Claimant as set out
above to settle all claims of Claimant against Augusta-Richmond County, Augusta-
Richmond County Commission, the Richmond County Sheriffs Office and their
employees and agents arising out of the facts alleged in said claim:
On April 15, 2008, Mr. Blanton was involved in a motor vehicle accident, which
resulted in a cervical strain and left shoulder contusion. On March 11, 2009, Mr. Blanton
was involved in another motor vehicle accident,which resulted in C2 and C7 fractures and
a traumatic brain injury. In 2012, Mr. Blanton injured his left leg while working on foot
patrol. In 2014, while also on foot patrol, Mr. Blanton was hit in the head, which resulted
in a head injury and neck strain. Mr. Blanton is under continuing care for the above
injuries.
Ronald Blanton, through counsel, submitted a demand for $1,100,000.00 on
September 14, 2017 to settle his claim.
WHEREAS,Augusta,Georgia acknowledges that the payment set forth herein does
not constitute any admission of liability on the part of Augusta, Georgia, Sheriff of
Richmond County, or any of their deputies or employees and liability is expressly denied;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Augusta, Georgia
Commission,
Section is The Augusta, Georgia Commission will settle the claims set forth
above for the sum of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00), payable to Ronald
Blanton and Gregory Smith LLC, as his attorneys.
Section 2: The Third-Party Administrator, Corvel Corporation, is authorized to
pay a total sum of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00), payable to Ronald
Blanton and Gregory Smith LLC, as his attorneys.
Section 3: To the extent that any section of the AUGUSTA,GA.CODE is in conflict
herewith,that subsection is waived for this instance only.
