transports to Atlanta Humane Society. 4 transports were done by plane
and several by van. Every other month AAS will be featured on the Pet
Adoption segment on WJBF channel 6 at 12pm. Several volunteers are
going to start a walking and training program at the shelter. This will be
extremely beneficial to the animals.
The next adoption event outside Petsmart will be held at Fabrik in Surrey
th
Center from 1pm-7pm Feb 9. 6 dogs and 2 cats will be taken to the store.
2 days a week volunteers are bathing the animals to prepare them for
surgery and adoptions.
The floor was open to ideas for locations for adoptions.

2.Rabies Clinics: The next dates are February 27, April 30 (Friends and
thth
Family Day), August 27, and November 5. Locations are TBD. Options
are any Richmond County Parks and Recreation Facilities. (Warren Road,

th
3.Family Fun Day: The date for Family Fun Day was decided, April 30. We
have decided to table ideas/discussion until the next meeting.
4.Sterilization Grant: The grant is for $7500.00 and must be used by 2016.
This will allow 300 animals to be spayed/neutered. A DRAFT of the
guidelines, restrictions, and application was given out. The sterilization
begins February 2016. Dr. Poppy stated that sterilization would take place
on Wednesdays and Thursdays at AAS. A motion was put into place and
the members voted, Jennifer Weaver via call-in, on whether to allow each
commission the same number (37 per district) or to “crunch” numbers and
give the districts with the most neglect, pickups, etc. more vouchers. It
was voted on to divide the number evenly among the districts and if some
districts did not use all of the vouchers then they would be given to
another district. Applications will be provided online, or picked up at the
shelter.
Dr. Poppy could not give a number regarding how many procedures she
could do in a day and stated she would need help. Some members are
going to reach out to vet techs and volunteers. The more help she has the
more procedures she can do.
A press release will be done and a blurb was decided upon.
5.Registration: Animal registration will begin as soon as the commission
approves the ordinance. Mrs. Brody discussed advertising, such as water
bill inserts. We also discussed locations for registration.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm
