HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting June 17, 2014 CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER June 17, 2014 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2014, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Lockett, Guilfoyle, Mason, D. Smith, Williams, Fennoy, Johnson, Jackson, Davis and G. Smith, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Mr. Mayor: Okay, if everybody’s ready and in the interest of time and now that we’ve established a quorum, I’ll go ahead and call the legal meeting to order. Mr. MacKenzie. 1.LEGAL MEETING A.Pending and potential litigation B.Real estate C.Personnel Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to go into a closed meeting to discuss pending and potential litigation and personnel. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Lockett: I so move. Mr. Mayor: Do we have a second? Mr. Williams: I second, Mr. Mayor. I got a comment please, sir. I need to know something. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion that’s been made and properly seconded. Commissioner Williams. Mr. Williams: I need to know whether we can get the EEO Director to come into legal because I’ve got some personnel issues I need to talk about with her and the attorney, but I want to make sure that she’s included in the meeting. Mr. Mayor: Well, let’s address the issue that the attorney’s brought before us that he did the special called legal meeting for and then you can bring up your issue there and we’ll see if we need to bring her in for that. Mr. Williams: I don’t understand. Mr. Mayor: I think there’s a specific issue that the attorney and that the Law Department call the legal meeting for, an employee issue, so I’m saying let’s address that issue first and then – 1 Mr. Williams: Oh, absolutely, no problem. I just want to make sure that my legal issue come in because I need the EEO Director to come in to explain some stuff that may help me in legal that we can’t talk about on the floor so I’d like to have that after we finish. Mr. Mayor: Okay, we have a motion that’s been made and properly seconded. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign. Ms. Davis and Mr. Johnson out. Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Mayor: We are in legal. [LEGAL MEETING] Mr. Mayor: Okay, in the interest of time and as we do have a quorum established, I’ll call the meeting back to order. Mr. MacKenzie. 2.Motion to authorize execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with Georgia’s Open Meeting Act. Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to execute the closed meeting affidavit. Mr. Lockett: So move. Mr. G. Smith: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion that’s been made and properly seconded. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: With no further business to come before the body, we stand adjourned. [MEETING ADJOURNED] Lena J.
