Senior Citizen transportation
Department:Recreation and Parks
Caption:Motion to approve additional funding for senior transportation to nutrition
centers.
Background:Transportation for senior citizens enrolled at the five nutrition sites(Blythe,
McBean, Brigham, C.J. Mays and Sand Hills) is provided and managed by
the state of Georgia Human Resources Dept. We have been notified by GA
DHR that the funds for transportation for state FY 09 are almost depleted,
and unless additional funding is allocated from Augusta, transportation
services will terminate on May 20th thru June 30th, when a new FY 10 state
budget will start on July 1st and transportation service would be restored.
Analysis:Transportation services have been reduced to four days/week from five days
for the last month to attempt to save state $'s to make it thru the end of the
fiscal year.
Financial Impact:In order to keep transportation running for four days/week thru June 30th,
additional funding in the amount of $20,000 is needed.
Alternatives:1. Not to approve, leaving over 150 senior citizens without transportation to
the nutrition program. 2. To approve
