Background:The Information Technology Department provides the Information
Technology Annual Report to all department heads and elected officials
each year. This report details some of the technical accomplishments and
tasks completed by the Information Technology Department during the
previous year. It outlines the use of technology and how it affects each
respective department as well as the overall organization.
Analysis:The IT Annual Report provides comparative data as a means to measure the
overall performance of the Information Technology Department as it strives
to provide the technical tools necessary to improve efficency throughout the
organization.

RE: Information Technology 2010 Annual Report
The Augusta Information Technology Department (IT) is continuously working to provide our customers
with quality technological services and support.
Following are a few of the Information Technology Department highlights for the previous year of 2010:
IT Customer Satisfaction Annual Survey demonstrated a 97% approval rating.
Ranked number seven (7) in the nation amongst other cities our size, in the Digital Cities Survey
conducted by the Center for Digital Government.
Website received a Sunny Award and was given an A- rating by the Sunshine Review for its efforts
in supporting a transparent government utilizing the website.
Major General Perry Smith conducted a training session at the Information Technology Department’s
Annual Retreat.
Conducted Camp Data for the City of Augusta’s youth ages 6 – 11 as part of our continuous outreach
efforts. The Camp served 92 children.
Implemented streaming and on demand video of Commission Meetings with 3,743 views.
Received an estimated 4.8Million visitors to www.augustaga.gov
Received an estimated 667,927 visitor to GIS Maps Online.
Blocked 9,549,385 spam emails and 34,887 virus emails.
Implemented new calling plans for city’s cellular usage resulting in a $6000 per month savings.
Implemented E911 Twitter application for traffic hazards, accidents and fires.
Deployed a Facebook site for Animal Services to assist with placement of animals with customers
who would potentially wish to adopt them.
Installed a new virtual server for NetMotion VPN Software.
Upgraded Cisco Unified Communications Manager from version 6.1.4 to 7.1.5.
Upgraded Blackberry Server from version 4.2 to 5.0.
Developed a new touch screen sign-in-board application for the Information Technology Department.
GIS completed the Geospatial Audit for the Georgia Association of Flood Plain Management.
GIS added 15,113 addresses that are currently not in WinGap parcel data.
Aerial photography for Richmond County was flown using Pictometry for AcuPlus 4” pixel
resolution.

Bank, Augusta Tomorrow and Downtown Development Authority’s.
Implemented Palatine Electronic Warrant Interchange System for Civil & Magistrate Court.

Developed a SharePoint portal intranet site for 911 that staff actively utilizes for calendars,

Implemented New World application upgrade to version 8.0.9 for Sheriff’s Office.
Implemented the Business Tax Interface process within CityView application for License &
Inspections.
Installed various wireless access points to provide free wireless services at various Recreation
Department sites.
Installed wireless access points for public Wi-Fi in the Wylds Road conference room of the Augusta
Utilities Department.
Completed GBA Bar Code scanning implementation for Augusta Utilities Department.
Created a digital Sign In/Sign Out Board for Augusta Utilities field crews.

as advance voting support with the Advance Voting Wait Time application.

Pictometry Self-Hosting program was installed that will allow any city department to have access to
oblique imagery and all the tools associated with Pictometry.
Nielson business data was acquired this year to update business locations throughout Richmond County.
Proposed an initiative to assume responsibility from Planning & Zoning for addressing and road naming
in order to expedite address data entry into GIS database.
Corrected all of the Zip Codes for Richmond County working with the Post Office and other data sources.
Provided Network Group with multiple maps for WiFi implementation at Paine College.
Created District Maps for GIS website.
Provided multiple maps for the Development Authority for possible sites of new businesses looking to

relocate to Augusta.
Worked closely with Augusta Tomorrow to provide data and maps necessary for the Augusta Master Plan
projects.
Created multiple maps for the Augusta Land Bank showing location of properties owned by Augusta
along with those needing razing.
