Augusta Port Authority Meeting Minutes
Boathouse, Thursday May 17, 2012 9:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order at 9: 00 a.m. by Wayne Hawkins, Chairman
Authority members present: Wayne Hawkins, Mildred Irish, Paul Muckerfuss and Frank Carl.
Guest present: Mike Cobb, River Keepers; Johnny Christian, Marina and Darrell Bennett, Augusta Parks
& Recreation
New Business: Wayne discussed that four bids have been received for the weed control; as follows:
Aqua Services $7,135.00
Estate Management Services $9,397.00
NutraChem $8,180.00
Southern Aquatics Services $6,500.00
Everyone agreed to turn bid into the Bid Department and request Southern Aquatics from Statesboro,
GA to complete work. This work would include 15-18 acres to spray. This does not include the South
Carolina side. Good results from first spraying. We need to make the river as good as we can.
Recreation is good on the river.
Marina Report: Rowers dock has been repaired.
Wayne submitted an approved P.O. to Daryl from Parks & Recreation in the amount of $4,431.00 to
repair six sections of dock with hatchet marks.
Crime has been an issue at the Marina. It was discussed the possible use of trail cameras to see who is
causing the damage.
Boat Owners: Marina has campaign to redirect boats and has made necessary structural and electrical
modifications at their expense to safely allow the move. They are trying to get rid of Panhandlers and
Vagrants.
Michael suggested a letter sent from the Port Authority to owner for permission to move salvaged
boats.
Green and Orange Buoys belong to Core Engineers.
White Buoys belong to South Carolina D&R.
Stan Simpson- Core of Engineers will lower water as much as needed. Needs to be done slowly.
Two boats at a time to go through locks. There will be a $35.00 fee per boat.
Bait & Tackle: Signed Contract. Joey Bait & Tackle will build small structure at their expense.
SPLOSH Money; main things needed are the roof on warehouse needs repairs. Need to solicit bids.
Lease renewal 2014.
Day in the Country: Success. Lots of people. Long range SPLOSH money.
June 2, 2012 National Row Day. Bring can goods for donation. Children 12 years and up can learn how
to row.
