HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting July 25, 2011 CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER July 25, 2011 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 12:00 Noon, Monday, July 25, 2011, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Lockett, Guilfoyle, Mason, Smith, Hatney, Johnson, Bowles and Brigham, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hons. Aitken and Jackson, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Mr. Mayor: Okay, seeing as we have a quorum and in the interest of everybody’s time, I’ll go ahead and call the legal meeting to order. Mr. Attorney. 1.LEGAL MEETING A. Pending and potential litigation B. Real estate C. Personnel Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to go into a closed legal meeting to discuss real estate and pending and potential litigation. Mr. Hatney: So move. Mr. Mason: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion, commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Mr. Johnson out. Motion carries 7-0. Mr. Mayor: We are in legal. [LEGAL MEETING] Mr. Mayor: I’ll call the meeting back to order. Mr. MacKenzie. 2.Motion to approve execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with Georgia’s Open Meeting Act. Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to execute the closed meeting affidavit. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Johnson: So move. Mr. Smith: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie. Mr. MacKenzie: I’d entertain a motion to add and approve, a motion to approve the expenditure of $175,000 from the SPLOST IV Cultural, Historical and Other Recreational Facilities category for the acquisition of property located at 1144 James Brown Boulevard commonly known as the Penny Savings Bank and for said property to be acquired by the Augusta, Georgia Land Bank Authority provided, however, in the event the Augusta, Georgia Land Bank Authority should sell the property, then the Land Bank shall refund the SPLOST funds expended for the purchase from the sales price. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Bowles: So move. Mr. Smith: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion, commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Motion carries Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie. Mr. MacKenzie: And the last one would be a motion to add and approve the settlement of an EPA site settlement for Alternative Energy Resources site in the total amount of $47,890.66 and to authorize the Mayor to execute contracts to settle this case. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Hatney: So move. Mr. Mason: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion, commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: Thank you, gentlemen.
