CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER
January 30, 2012
Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 12:00 Noon, Monday, January 30,
2012, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding.
PRESENT: Hons. Lockett, Guilfoyle, Mason, Smith, Aitken, Jackson, and Brigham,
members of Augusta Richmond County Commission.
ABSENT: Hons. Johnson and Bowles, members of Augusta Richmond County
Commission.
Mayor Copenhaver called the meeting to order.
Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie.
1.LEGAL MEETING
A. Pending and potential litigation
B. Real estate
C. Personnel
Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to go into a closed legal meeting to
discuss pending and potential litigation, real estate and personnel.
Mr. Smith: Motion made.
Mr. Mayor: We’ve got a motion. Is there a second?
Mr. Brigham: Second.
Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual
sign of voting.
Motion carries 7-0.

Mr. Mayor: Madam Clerk, are you ready?
The Clerk: Yes, sir.
Mr. Mayor: I’ll go ahead and call the meeting back to order. Mr. MacKenzie.
2.Motion to authorize execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with
Georgia’s Open Meeting Act.
Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to execute the closed meeting affidavit.
Mr. Lockett: So move.
Mr. Mason: Second.
Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual
sign of voting.
Motion carries 8-0.
Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie.
Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to add and approve the acquisition of a
right-of-way and temporary construction easement in the amount of $1,500 to Augusta,
Georgia from Georgia Power Company.
Mr. Lockett: Move to approve.
Mr. Mason: Second.
Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion
commissioners will now vote by the –
Mr. Brigham: Is this from Georgia Power to Augusta or from Augusta to Georgia
Power?
Mr. MacKenzie: It’s from Georgia Power to Augusta.
Mr. Mayor: Okay. We have a motion –
Mr. Brigham: (inaudible) $1,500.
Mr. MacKenzie: No. We’ll be paying them $1,500 for these rights.
Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion
commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting.
Motion carries 8-0.
Mr. Mayor: Anything further, Mr. MacKenzie?
Mr. MacKenzie: That’s all I have.
Mr. Mayor: Madam Clerk, next agenda item please.
3.Motion to approve the recommendation of the Administrator for the position of Fire
Chief.
Mr. Lockett: Move to approve.
Mr. Mason: Second.
Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. Is there any further discussion?
Mr. Russell: For the record since it’s not on the agenda item, I’d like to nominate
Chris James as Fire Chief.
Mr. Mayor: Okay, we have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion
commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting.
Motion carries 8-0.
Mr. Mayor: It is unanimous and congratulations, Chief James.
Mr. Russell: I was going to ask him to say something, but since ya’ll stood up and
clapped, I think we’ll just quit while we’re ahead.
Mr. Mayor: Glad to have you. If there’s no further business to come before the body, we
stand adjourned.
