HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting November 28, 2023 CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER November 28, 2023 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the Honorable Garnett Johnson, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Johnson, Williams, Mason, Frantom, Garrett, Scott, McKnight, Lewis and Guilfoyle, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hon. Pulliam, member of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Mr. Mayor: Madam Clerk, I call this meeting to order. Attorney Brown. 1. LEGAL MEETING A. Pending and potential litigation B. Real estate C. Personnel Mr. Brown: Thank you, Mayor and Commissioners. We would request a motion to go into executive session for the discussion of personnel, pending and potential litigation and real estate. Ms. McKnight: So move. Mr. Frantom: Second. rd Mr. Mayor: Madam Clerk, we have a motion by the commissioner from the 3 and the th second from the commissioner from the 7. Let’s vote. Mr. Mason out. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: Thank you, Madam Clerk. We’re now in executive session. Thank you. \[EXECUTIVE SESSION\] Mr. Mayor: Ladies and gentlemen, thank ya’ll for being here today. Madam Clerk, I call this meeting back to order. The Clerk: Yes, sir. Mr. Mayor: Attorney Brown. 2. Motion to authorize execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with Georgia’s Open Meeting Act. 1 Mr. Brown: Thank you, Mayor Johnson, Commissioners. We would request a motion to execute the closed meeting affidavit. Mr. Garrett: So moved. Mr. Mason: Second. Mr. Mayor: I have a motion and a proper second. Madam Clerk, we’re voting. Mr. Lewis out. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: Thank you, Madam Clerk. Attorney Brown, are there any motions as a result of our executive session? Mr. Brown: Yes, sir. Ms. Douse: Mayor Johnson, I motion to approve the payment request by the Civil and Magistrate Court of Richmond County for the monthly payment of $500 commencing January of 2023 to Judge Shawn Merzlak for his services as a part-time Civil Court Judge of Richmond County, Civil and Magistrate Court. Mr. Garrett: So moved. Mr. Mason: Second. Mr. Mayor: Madam Clerk, I have a motion and a proper second. We’re voting. Mr. Lewis out. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: Attorney Brown. Mr. Brown: Thank you, Mayor Johnson. We would request a motion to approve a resolution authorizing the settlement of all claims of Interstate Storage LLC in the aggregate amount of $35,000 payable to Interstate Storage LLC and Mark A. Cleary as their attorney, further authorizing the Administrator to disburse the amount of $35,000 waiving Augusta, Georgia Code of Ordinances Sections and conflict for this instance only and for other purposes. Mr. Mason: So move. Mr. Garrett: Second. Mr. Mayor: All right, Madam Clerk, there’s a motion and a second. We’re voting. 2 Mr. Garrett votes No. Mr. Lewis out. Motion carries 7-1. Mr. Mayor: Thank you, Madam Clerk. Attorney Brown, does that conclude our motions? Mr. Brown: Yes, sir. Mr. Mayor: All right.
