Presentation of Augusta Recreation Department's 2001 Budget.
Mr. Beck, Director, Recreation & Parks Department gave a detailed
summary/overview of the department's responsibilities and budget.
After an extensive question and answer session:
Mr. Loyd: Uyou would provide us with the fee structures, revenues and grants,
the different senior programs that are offered and expenditures from the cities of
Columbus, Macon, and Savmmah's recreational departments. As you provide us with the
fee structures from these areas that we're looking at, the one you think we fit closest too
in telms of population served and the cost of the programs, would you put that one as an
individual comparison upon our numbers. In other words, we have this report, it has
Augusta's fee structure and I'll say Columbus' fee structure so we can actually see the
difference in that particular fee structure. I would also like to see a report from Macon.
Mr. Colet: Before we have another meeting with another department, I would like
to see us get the information that we have requested from the IT Department and the
Recreation Department; then maybe this committee can meet and discuss those two
depm1ments before we move on to a third one.
I
Ms. BOlU1er: You have a perfect window of opportunity to do just that because
Public Works is not quite ready so maybe we can use our next meeting to do what you
have suggested. However, I need Recreation to get me their infom1ation because the next
meeting is next week.
Mr. Beck: If you would give us a week because getting some of the fee structures
in may take longer.
I
It was the consensus of the Committee to meet again on Monday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m.
Mr. Simon: I would like to get some information on revenue sources. If we could
find out what the tax rate of a home is in Richmond County versus other counties in the
state. I've been under the impression that Augusta has one of the lowest tax structure in
the state. We cannot expect to offer the same kind of services that other cities offer if our
tax structure is the lowest in the state.
ADJOUR1~MENT: With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjoumed.
